In the spring of 2017, Jane Winsett, Miami University senior, interviewed two local feminist activists, who have undoubtedly changed Oxford for the better: Joanne McQueen and Dr. Kathy McMahon-Klosterman. These women founded the Oxford and Miami chapters of the National Organization for Women (NOW) and have inspired a new generation of feminists with their collective archives and lifelong dedication to the feminist movement. During the 1970s and 1980s, Joanne also operated a business, the Fantastic Feminist Enterprise, which sold merchandise related to empowering women. Some of her products were even featured in Ms. Magazine. Kathy McMahon-Klosterman, professor emerita of educational psychology, continues her activism teaching at Miami University. Today we are going to discuss how Jo and Kathy’s activism of the past has shaped our present efforts the future of feminism.
